K072. Jesus told us not to be religious (superstitious)

What is being 'religious'? Many of us would think that being religious is being hypocritical, legalistic, and old-traditional.

I cannot tell you if Jesus had said that we should not be religious in a particular Bible verse, but I can say Jesus did tell us not to be stupid. In another words, He told us to be wise, be sober, and be diligent.
Mat 10:16 KJV  Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

So, I would think that being 'religious' could also mean being so 'spiritual', so 'godly', or so 'holy', that we became superstitious, unwise, and 'superficial' before God and men, and that we could no longer relate well with anyone (especially the poor and the unlovely) around us :
2Ti 3:5-7 KJV  Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.  (6)  For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,  (7)  Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Ironically many Christians claim that they are more spiritual than those who are religious when actually they themselves are more religious than others. Do we have any examples of the believers or preachers who believe or preach 'spiritual' things or 'godly' things so superficially that they themselves become more 'religious' (superstitious) than others? Yes, you bet, many. But I can only think of one example now:

I have heard of a preacher who always preach about the promise of longevity based on the story of Moses' death. Yes, Moses died at 120 years old. But the preacher turned it into a radical doctrine of mindless confession to convince the people that they can live up to 120 years old too, which is also part of his 'gospel of grace' or holy communion. The preacher would preach it, confess it, and prophesy it over his believers at the end of his benediction or holy communion. However, none of them could live up to 120 years old. He explained that it was a positive confession which would also increase their faith for more favor, more prosperity, and more blessings, even though he knew that none of them can ever live up to 120 years old (probably possible with the medical science only after many years later). But I would think that his promise (though it is based on the Bible story of Moses) is totally deceptive, vain, meaningless, superstitious, religious, and brainwashing. Please think, If he can convince us to believe in something that is so 'radically' superstitious, can he not introduce more heretic 'mother grace' confession or superstition which will keep the foolish and the ignorant mesmerized under his deception? I am afraid that many people are still not aware of it.

Hence, if we find that the majority of the believers in our churches have confessed vainly according to those radical teaching, eg. radical confession of 'grace', 'righteousness of God', or '120 years old', ritualistically for 500 times or even 5000 times, it may not be an overstatement for me to say that we could have become more 'religious' than those who are the religious (outside our churches). So, before we point at others and say that they are more religious, more law conscious, or more legalistic, ask ourselves if we have become more superstitious first.

If you are still not clear if Christians can be religious or superstitious, watch this video and tell me if this is religious or superstitious:
