I
will ask, Did Jesus tell us to love once and for (once and that's all)?
Did He tell us to obey once and for all, do good once and for all, give
thanks once and for all, or confess our sins once and for all? No. I
don't think so. Jesus said, Luk 11:2-10 KJV .. When ye pray, say, Our
Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy
will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. (3) Give us day by day our daily bread. (4) And forgive us our sins;
for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not
into temptation; but deliver us from evil. (5) And he said unto them,
Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and
say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves ..
Jesus told us that we can give thanks and confess our sins daily.
Hence,
it means that there are things which we can do repeatedly and we don't
have to worry if we would insult God, for example, confessing our sins,
repentance, doing good, and helping others. I do not know how some
preachers could preach the gospel of Jesus Christ until they are too
afraid to confess sins, repent, and do good as often as necessary?
However, they would just want to feel comfortable (with no condemnation)
to do nothing, confess grace or righteousness over and over, and boast
that they are better believers than others.
Can we die once and for all?
I
think, Most of them have become confused. They thought, If Jesus could
die 'once and for all', they could repent or confess their sins 'once
and for all' too. I find it ridiculous. It is like telling others that
they can eat (chicken rice, curry, burger, .. etc) only 'once and for
all'.
I will tell them, Yes, Jesus can die once and for all; but we must die daily. He is God. He is perfect; but we are not:
Luk 9:23-24 KJV And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. (24) For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.
Joh 12:24-26 KJV Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die,
it bringeth forth much fruit. (25) He that loveth his life shall lose
it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life
eternal. (26) If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am,
there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father
honour.
Can we confess our sins once and for all?
If we
do not 'die' once and for all, we do not confess sins 'once and for
all' too. We still need to 'die' daily, carry our cross daily, and admit
our weakness daily. Hence, we still confess that we are weak in the
flesh and we can still sin. If we can still sin, it makes no sense for
us to say that we can confess sins only once and that 1 John 1:9 is only
for the agnostic believers or the non-believers outside the churches.
1Jn
1:8-10 KJV If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and
the truth is not in us. (9) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and
just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness. (10) If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a
liar, and his word is not in us.
I do not like to judge. But if we
keep hearing the preachers saying that they can only confess their sins
once or that 1 John 1:9 is not for us, we can say that they are
preaching lies.
We are called to preach repentance over and over wherever we go
Luk
24:45-47 KJV Then opened he their understanding, that they might
understand the scriptures .. (47) And that repentance and remission of
sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at
Jerusalem.
Act 2:38 KJV Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be
baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission
of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Many will
still argue, "But did you read what Peter said above ? Did he tell the
believers to repent or to be born again? No, he told only the sinners to
repent. Did he tell the believers to get baptized continuously? No, he
did not tell the believers to do it over and over again. So, why must we
keep telling the believers to repent and repent, again and again?"
I
will tell them, Water baptism is physical ceremony before God and
others. It also symbolizes our spiritual experience of being born again,
our repentance, and our confession of sins before God. Hence, we do not
go through the water baptism over and over again. However, the
spiritual experience of being born again and repentance of the inner
being is more complicated (and less obvious) than the physical
experience. It could be a continuous process or attitude not easily
understood and seen by carnal people's eyes, especially the Pharisees.
Some ceremonies can be done only once; but repentance is not a ceremony
Do
you take holy communion more than once? It may be a physical ceremony
too, but the spiritual implication is more complicated (and less
obvious) to many people. We have to do it repeatedly to remind ourselves
of what Jesus had done for us, how grace was given to us, or what
repentance means in Jesus Christ. Like giving thanks, holy communion can
be done over and over again with more focus on its spiritual
implication and God would not feel insulted. Hence, with thanks giving
and humility, repentance and confession of sins before God will never
make Him feel insulted too. On the contrary, the lack of it will make
Him feel insulted. If a sinner can confess his sins more readily or more
humbly than the believers who always think that they are too righteous
to confess it, shame on the believers:
Luk 18:11-14 KJV The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust,
adulterers, or even as this publican. (12) I fast twice in the week, I
give tithes of all that I possess. (13) And the publican, standing
afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote
upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. (14) I
tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the
other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that
humbleth himself shall be exalted.
I will ask them, Will Jesus tell
the believers or disciples that they will just need to be humble once
(and for all), or that it is necessary only when they were sinners like
the publican? No, humility is a process, an attitude, and a requirement
throughout the lives of all His believers; so is repentance !
Jas 4:6-10 KJV But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble .. (10) Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
1Jn 1:8-10 KJV If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. (9) If we confess our sins,
he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from
all unrighteousness. (10) If we say that we have not sinned, we make
him a liar, and his word is not in us.
It is not an insult to God if we confess our sins with repentance
Now
please think, If confessing of our sins before God is an expression of
our humility, our attitude, or our inner repentance process before God,
how can it be an insult to God? How can we interpret it as something
that can only be done by the agnostic believers who are ignorant of
repentance? No. God is not only faithful and just to the sinners who
will repent; God is faithful and just to us and all who have the same
attitude or humility to repent too. Hence, our righteousness in Christ
can never be taken away because of our humility to repent before God.
