Luk
11:4 KJV .. And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that
is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from
evil.
We can say that the Bible verse above is not only a prayer
for the believers; it is also a confession of sins for the believers.
Is there anyone who will dispute?
If this is what Jesus said and taught us, can the confession of sins be an insult to God or God's righteousness?
John told us to confess our sins too
Hence,
I find that it is ridiculous to tell the believers not to confess sins
or not to preach it because it is an insult to God. If it is an insult
to God, John would be liable for telling us to confess our sins, and
John would be negligent for not saying it clearly who should confess
sins or who should not. But don't you think that John has said clearly
(and deliberately without negligence) that anyone or all of us can confess sins?
1Jn 1:6-10 KJV If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: (7) But if we
walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with
another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all
sin. (8) If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. (9) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (10) If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
1 John 1:9 is still the word of God for us
I
know that there are preachers who would conclude, after going through
many tedious research on many Bible texts and translations, that
ultimately 1 John 1:9 is not for them; but for the 'agnostic' believers
or 'gnostic' believers. When they said this, it impressed many people.
Some of us have to use the dictionaries to find out the true meaning of
'agnostic' or 'gnostic'. But this is just all part of their perverted
revolution or 'art of confusion'.
Please think, Can a simple believer
understand 1 John 1:9 without the preaching of a Bible scholar or
anointed preacher? Absolutely yes. Can a simple believer tell which
Bible verse in 1Jn 1:6-10 is for the normal believers and which is for
the agnostic believers? No, absolutely not. A simple believer will just
know that 1 John 1:9 is for the believer. So, don't tell me that a
simple believer must need some kind of anointed preachers to interpret
for him which Bible verse is for him and which is not? I have found and
highlighted 5 'If we' in 1 John 1:6-10. Please think, How in the world
can a mature believer know which 'If we' is for him and which is not
too? Hence, it is ridiculous to preach which type of believers can only
hear which type of Bible verses.
If we read 1 John 1:6-9 and know the
full Bible context from the teaching and doctrine of Jesus Christ, we
know that it is for all of us. The 5 Bible verses show us that we can
say that:
1. we have fellowship with Him,
2. we must walk in the light,
3. we should not lie,
4. we can confess our sins, and
5. we can never say that we have no sins
Even
if John would take the trouble to add footnotes to every Bible verse
above to tell us which verse is for the normal believers and which verse
is for 'others', I would still say that 1 John 1:9 is for us. Have we
forgotten that the letters of Hebrews and Galatians were written to the
Jews? If their instructions and warnings are still applicable to us, all
the letters of John are still applicable to us too.
Now, let us look
at 1 John 1:7 - When John said, "If we walk in the light, we have
fellowship with Him, and we are cleansed by His blood ..", obviously he
said it to the true believers. Only the true believers can walk in the
light, and John knew that only the true believers can understand and
receive the fullness of joy when he said it to them:
1Jn 1:4 KJV And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.
Believers can always confess sins
Again
many preach that we should confess our sins only if we sin or only if
we are the sinners. Did John say, "If we sin, we confess our sins .." ?
No, we can confess our sins at any time even if we did not sin. As
believers, we confess our sins not because we hope that God will forgive
us; but because we know that God will forgive us according to 1 John
1:9. We confess our sins because we know that we have truly repented.
So, it is ridiculous to say that confession of sins is for the agnostic
believers or gnostic believers. Why can't we say that confession of sins
is for all the believers?
So, are we afraid of omitting or
forgetting to confess some of our sins? No, our salvation is not
dependent on our act of confession verbally or physically; it is
dependent on our conversion or repentance which we must have done with
the inner confession of our sins before God who is faithful and just.
So, please don't be intimidated by preachers who would never confess
sins or preach confession of sins. They may lie with many convincing
examples of how tiring it could be to confess sins physically or
verbally; but actually they are tired of inner conversion (or
repentance). They could have been baptised into the baptism of Christ
according to the foundational doctrine of Christ, but now they want to
come out, thinking that they are more knowledgeable, more gifted, and
more anointed than others when actually they are still blind and naked
in the eyes of God:
Heb 6:1-6 KJV Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance
from dead works, and of faith toward God, (2) Of the doctrine of
baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead,
and of eternal judgment. (3) And this will we do, if God permit. (4)
For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and
have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy
Ghost, (5) And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the
world to come, (6) If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
Jesus will ask the churches to confess their sins in the last days
Jesus
has given us serious warning. He did not warn the sinners of the world
or those who are already blinded; He warns those who are in the churches
and who think that they know Him. When Jesus talked about the lukewarm
churches, He confirmed it and He showed us that there are many believers
who are blinded, yet they refuse to hear or see with the light of His
words. They would just want to lock their minds into the darkness and
lies of their favourite preachers and think that they are 'forever
saved, forever rich, forever forgiven, forever blessed, and forever
right (or righteous)'; but Jesus would give them the harsh rebuke and
warning. Please think, When Jesus said, "I will spue you out", isn't it a
harsh rebuke? However, many would still not hear it because they
believe that Jesus can only speak 'softly' to them and they will brush
off all the warning of the Lord as condemnation or conviction of sins
from Satan:
Rev 3:15-19 KJV I know thy works, that thou art neither
cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. (16) So then because thou
art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
(17) Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and
have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and
miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: (18) I counsel thee to buy
of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white
raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy
nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou
mayest see. (19) As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous
therefore, and repent.
But many will just want to create disputes on His words
Many
will argue, "But Jesus tells us to repent only; not to confess our sins
so crazy that we 'chirp' like the birds. In fact, only the agnostic
believers are told to confess sins." I will ask them, Who told you to
confess sins until you 'chirp' like the birds or until you repeat like
the crazy parrots? Either you had been pitifully misled by your former
church or you are now trying to mislead the believers. No, John wrote to
the believers. He wrote to YOU and ME (or US) to confess our sins, not
hypocritically but meaningfully. However, if you just want to repent
without saying anything or doing anything, you are just changing your
minds or 'metanoia'. Nobody knows whether you have repented or not.
But,
if you repent and confess your sins, you show to Jesus that you do not
want to just change your minds quietly. You are humble enough to admit
wrong and confess it before everyone, and you are sincere in showing
that you still want to do more than just changing your minds. In fact,
many people today should do more than just 'metanoia' repentance or
'quiet' confession (which even God cannot hear); they need to repent,
declare, and do like Zacchaeus. We should be 'man' enough to admit wrong
and confess it, especially if we are the preachers. Why? Wrong doctrine
cannot save. Hence, by confessing it honestly, we can point people back
to the right path. However, if we keep quiet or try to twist it around,
we will cause more confusion.
What we say or confess will show the true nature of ourselves
So,
confession of sins to God is still important to all the believer who
truly want to repent. Confession of sins is always a normal response in
admitting that we are the sinners and that we need to turn from our
sins. But, if we find that we can only change our minds without doing,
saying, or confessing anything, we would have problem to show or bring
any fruit or work of repentance later. With our mouth we will speak and
confess that Jesus is Lord as we believe; so, will we speak and confess
that we are the sinners if we repent too. This is just common sense, and
Jesus and all God's preachers would preach common sense too:
Mat 3:8 KJV Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:
Joh 14:15 KJV If ye love me, keep my commandments.
2Jn
1:9-12 KJV Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of
Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he
hath both the Father and the Son. (10) If there come any unto you, and
bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid
him God speed: (11) For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of
his evil deeds. (12) Having many things to write unto you, I would not
write with paper and ink: but I trust to come unto you, and speak face
to face, that our joy may be full.
True confession of sins will never cause confusion
But
if you are confused by the preachers who one moment tell you that it is
ok for you to confess your sins; and then later in another moment they
would tell you not to confess your sins, don't listen to them. They will
preach everything to confuse you. You will realize that they will also
start to tell you that it is ok to work, and then in another moment they
will say that you should not work. Then before long, they will argue
again that it is ok to meditate on the laws of God, and then later they
will say that you can be under the curse of the law if you read too much
law of God. At the end of the day, you go nowhere except going around
in 'circles'. Their arguments on 'the laws or no more laws, works or no
no more works, sins or no more sins, and repentance or no more
repentance' will raise a lot of questions and confusion on their
doctrine. They will then take advantage of the confusion and situation
to start accusing the churches of misunderstanding them or becoming
jealous of them. Jesus has warned us about their 'lukewarm' behaviours.
It will happen in the last days.
Rev 3:15-16 KJV I know thy works,
that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
(16) So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I
will spue thee out of my mouth.
1 John 1:9 is an important God's message of grace to all the believers
I
will ask them, Didn't you say that 1 John 1:9 is for the agnostic
believers because you and your believers can never sin like the agnostic
believers? But how about the 'true' believers in your church who sinned
or the pastors who committed adultery? Will you say that they are the
agnostic believers now? Or would you insist that they are the 'true'
believers who can never sin and that the sins that they have committed
are not considered as 'sins' in the eyes of God and yours? I will ask
the ladies, Will you feel safe to marry a believer husband who thinks
that it is not a sin if he sleeps with other women and divorces you? No,
if a believer sins or divorces his wife, it is still considered as a
sin, whether he is a agnostic believer or true believer. If he will
truly confess his sin, he would call his sin a sin; he won't call it a
mistake, fault, weakness, excuse, or something else. The Bible has said
it very clearly, All believers can still fall and sin. But if we
sincerely repent and humbly confess our sins, God will still forgive us.
That's why 1 John 1:9 is still for all who will obey God, repent, and
confess their wrongdoing as sins; not confess it as a 'mistake' which
require simply a change of mind to change their way of thinking, their
lifestyle, or even their 'wives'.
Now you may say that you confess
your sins too. But you say that you confess your sins because you know
that you are forgiven, not because you want God to forgive you. That's
fine. But, how do you know that you are forgiven? Don't you think that
it is still because of the assurance given by 1 John 1:9 too? So, if you
agree and confess your sins based on the knowledge of 1 John 1:9, 1 John 1:9 is a grace message too, not only for the agnostic believers, but for all the believers who may sin. So, what's the big deal if we confess our sins as the agnostic believers or true believers?
When
you said that confession of sins is only for the agnostic believers,
obviously you did not realise that confession of sins in 1 John 1:9 is
the grace of God for everyone. Now that you have realised that it is the
grace of God, why can't you say that it is for every believer?
